This Page is Dedicated to Vic Hammonds "Speed Demon!" Front engined dragster.
The Car was originally built in the states before Vic imported it in mid 2008. Since its import Vic has been an occasional driver getting back into things after many years of not driving, his previous experiences are well known within the sport as a Fuel Altered driver. He is definitely one of the characters of the sport in the UK. There are a lot of people about who will testify to the fact that one should not get Vic to recall a tale of days gone by especially if they have had a drink or two and more so with a weak and full bladder!!
Back to the Car, a brief specification.
Chassis
Full chrome moly construction by Tuttle, wheel base is 200" with solid mounted axles, chassis is a slip joint so chassis flex acts as suspension.
Body
Half body in aluminium painted blue with orange and yellow flames.
Axle
Narrowed 9 inch ford with 4.3:1 gears, strange spool and shafts.
Brakes
Four pot calipers and discs fitted to rear wheels only. (footbrake)
Transmision
Powerglide 2 speed automatic with electronic shift. Solid drive shaft and greek coupler.
Engine
Chevrolet small block V8, originally 350 cubic inches now with a slight over stroke crankshaft its 370 ci (6068cc) Crower steel crankshaft, venolia aluminium con rods, Venolia pistons, Flat tappet cam, Aluminium heads, Wiand supercharger manifold, 6/71 supercharger underdriven (10%) Enderle Bug catcher and fuel pump. Msd Ignition system, Zoomie headers.
On board starter and fuel primer system
Since it's import the car has been run on a "safe" tune ie low boost and plenty rich.
Despite this the car regularly runs consistant 7.6 to 7.8 second times and has run a best of 7.61 and over 194 mph (class record). short times are around 1.1 seconds and the 1/8 mile is around 4.75 seconds at 145mph..The car has the potential to run low seven second times but will be run in its present tune for the foreseeable future to keep it reliable and also to keep the running costs down.
The car will compete in the Supercharged outlaws class during 2011, but it can easily be made ready for several other classes including SuperPro ET, Pro ET, Wildbunch etc.
